Translating
is traversing a text to recreate the original in the target language. We may or
may not be successful, depending, above all (and this is particularly true for
poetry), on whether or not we are able to grasp the original's
"intention"... Yet it is a matter of language, and we are not always
able to grasp it, especially if we assume that it is impossible to replicate
the tradition in which the poem was written, that temporal unity between the moment
and the time when the poem was written that is a unity in every sense, as
intense as it is luminous. And poetry translation is also creation, even though
this creation is indebted to the original.

¿La traducción de poesía es recreación o creación? ¿Por qué?
Traducir es atravesar un texto tratando de recrear el original en la lengua meta. Podemos tener éxito o no, dependerá sobre todo - y particularmente en poesía - de si logramos o no llegar a la "intención" del original... Sin embargo es una cuestión de lenguaje y no siempre es posible alcanzar esa intención, sobre todo partiendo de la base de que es imposible repetir la tradición en la que el poema fue escrito, esa unidad temporal entre la época y el momento en que fue escrito que es unidad en todo sentido, tan intensa como luminosa. Y también es creación, aunque la creación es deudora del original.
