Silvia Camerotto (Argentina, 1959) answers a question about poetry translation and writing / SC contesta una pregunta sobre la traducción y la escritura de poesía

Did poetry translation affect your writing? In what way?

Translation affected my mind, luckily. We cannot translate without reading in depth, without knowing in depth, without analyzing in depth. This is a dazzling process; we open the box of words and realize that they are boundless. It is an incessant learning process. I'm still learning to write, and yes, translation affects me because in order to translate we have to read first. That's the secret   reading and working.

You can find Silvia Camerotto's translations from English into Spanish in her blog, De sibilas y pitias, and some of her poems (in Spanish) here.
